The project began in 1999 when Janice M. Wilkin was commissioned by the City of Heath to research and write the history of the Davis-Shai House. This expanded to a request for the city's history to be captured in print. The book captures the vision and pride of a people who struggled to create their own entity as Ohio's 196th city. It captures the heartbeat of the city - its historical significance, economic foundation, political battles, and citizens involvement. From the founding fathers who share their memories of the city's early days to the present leaders who guide its future, the reader gets a glimpse of the inner workings of the community called "The City of Progress".
