Beat The HEAT, Inc.
BEAT THE HEAT, INC. is a "Cops and Kids" oriented program which brings the young people together with the Police Officers who are there to help them. It gives both groups an opportunity to closely interact with each other so that each group can learn from the other things that will really make a difference for both groups in the community.
Goals of Beat the HEAT, Inc.
- To help EDUCATE the young people of our communities about the real problems of illegal drug and alcohol use.
- To EDUCATE everyone to the horrors of alcohol or drug impaired driving.
- To promote a better understanding between the Police and the communities they serve.
- To EDUCATE the general public about DRAG RACING, and encourage everyone to not race in the street.
The theme of our program is "RACING FOR EDUCATION". Three of our four goals state specifically a goal of some kind of education. Many of the problems of our society today stem from the fact that many people are lacking in education. We can only make an attempt with the adults to get them to use their heads and think before they do something. However, we CAN get the attention of the young people and they are very capable of learning. We try to encourage those young people to STAY IN SCHOOL AND OFF DRUGS AND ALCOHOL.
BEAT THE HEAT INC. also offers alternative extra-curricular activity for those youngsters who may not be
able to make the sports teams in high school. Handicap Drag Racing is a sport in which ANYONE who can drive
can participate on a fair and equal basis with everyone else. Your only limitation is your own ability to
learn the technique and DO IT!
Purpose
The racecar is used to raise awareness of illegal drug and alcohol use and dangerous street racing. We race exclusively at National Trails Raceway during the Friday Night Street Legal Drags. Check our 2006 Schedule for dates.
The Car
Seized from a multiple D.U.I. violator, our racecar is a 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger sporting a 450 horsepower 360 c.i.
smallblock V8. It is also equipped with a six-point roll bar as required by NHRA rules.

News
We are excited to announce that the Village of Ostrander donated a 1987 Plymouth Gran Fury to our Beat the Heat chapter. Plans are to restore the former Ohio Highway Patrol car to like new condition and stuff the engine bay with a big block Chrysler motor. We'll keep it street legal but with a NASCAR look. Probably won't race it but look for it this summer at shows and cruise-ins. Check back for photos and updates in the near future.

Donations
Beat the Heat is a non-profit organization, no taxpayer dollars are used to support the program. Donations are welcome to help pay for parts, painting and detailing the car, a trailer to haul the vehicle, as well as in the future for regular maintenance of the car. As the organization is non-profit, contributors can use their donations as a tax write off. Corporate sponsors may make arrangements to have their company logo advertised on the car. These plans will be made on an individual basis. To make a donation, please contact Chief Tony Shepherd ().
